OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH

Our Mission in Papua New Guinea

Biomadive supports the scientific collaboration between PharmaMar and the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) by enabling advanced marine biodiversity research across the country’s unique waters.

Our work focuses on:

• Marine Biodiversity Exploration

We explore the rich ecosystems of Papua New Guinea to document its extraordinary marine biodiversity, with a special focus on invertebrates and other benthic organisms.

• Sample Collection & Field Operations

Biomadive manages and executes all expedition logistics, including planning, safety, transportation, and underwater operations.

Our team collects marine invertebrates and environmental samples following strict scientific and ethical protocols.

• Sample Cataloguing & Data Management

Once collected, all specimens are catalogued, documented, and preserved according to research standards, including taxonomy notes and underwater photographic records.

• Supporting the Search for New Anticancer Compounds

The samples collected by Biomadive are provided to PharmaMar and UPNG for laboratory analysis as part of the joint effort to identify new marine-derived molecules with potential anticancer activity.

• Enabling Capacity Building in PNG

Through our field operations, we facilitate the participation and training of UPNG researchers, contributing to the transfer of know-how and strengthening local scientific capabilities.
